BHE Renewables develops, owns and operates solar, wind, geothermal and hydroelectric projects that produce energy for both the wholesale market and for customers under long-term power agreements. CalEnergy is a wholly owned subsidiary of BHE Renewables and operates 10 geothermal plants located in Calipatria.

CalEnergy Operating Corporation (CalEnergy) specializes in renewable energy, extracting steam from the Earth for geothermal energy. Parented by Berkshire Hathaway Energy, the CalEnergy facility sits in Calipatria and nets 340 megawatts of geothermal energy from the depths of Imperial Valley ground.
In 1927, the first attempts at geothermal exploration were conducted at the Salton Sea. Nearly 60 years later, in 1982, CalEnergy’s first power plant, Salton Sea 1, went online. CalEnergy now has several customers, including the Imperial Irrigation District, Southern California Edison, the City of Riverside, Arizona Public Service, and several others.
